Themes

44 themes ship in the box — switch instantly from settings, no restart required:

• 7 built-in dark themes — Ocean, Amethyst, Emerald, Amber, Crimson, Gold, Penguin
• 7 built-in light themes — Sky, Peach, Lavender, Mint, Blush, Butter, Panda
• 30 developer themes, faithful recreations of familiar editor color schemes — Gruvbox, Dracula, Nord, Monokai Pro, Solarized, One Dark, Catppuccin, Tokyo Night, Ayu, Night Owl, Everforest, Kanagawa, Rosé Pine, Horizon, Flexoki, Ferra, Ashen, and more, most with both a dark and light variant

On macOS, switching themes also re-tints the native window title bar to match, so the whole window feels like one surface instead of an app floating inside stock chrome.

Settings

Everything is searchable directly with settings: / s: — you never have to hunt through menus for a checkbox. The main groups:

The word counter is worth a special mention: select text and it switches to showing stats for just the selection, and its words-per-minute figure is measured against your actual active typing time, not wall-clock time — so stepping away to think doesn’t tank your number.

Nothing here is required to use the app well — it exists to make a vault feel like yours, not to gate a feature.

Vaults

You can have as many vaults as you like. Switch, create, or delete one from the vault button at the bottom of the sidebar, or with the vault: / v: search command. Each vault keeps its own independent cache of pins, tags, properties, and backlinks — nothing leaks between them when you switch.

Storage & privacy

A vault is a plain folder of .md files, full stop. Frontmatter (the YAML block between --- fences) holds a note’s properties; the rest is Markdown text. Pasted images are saved as real files in an images folder next to the note.

There’s no account, no login, and no cloud sync. The app can only reach one address on the internet — nolagmind.com, to check whether a new version is available — nothing else leaves your machine. Because a vault is just a folder, you can back it up or sync it across machines with whatever tool you already trust: Git, Dropbox, iCloud Drive, a USB stick, or nothing at all.
